Thoughts become things

“Whether a thought is spoken or not, it is a real thing and has powers of reality.”

- Frank Herbert

About 15 years ago I was introduced to "Notes from the Universe" by author and speaker Mike Dooley. These daily doses of encouragement are waiting for me in my inbox when I wake up every morning. It's a brief personalized reminder about how we have all of this unlimited potential residing inside of us to go out and make the most out of life. Mike's mantra: Thoughts become things. It's simple and profound at the same time, if you understand how powerful our thoughts truly are.

I ended up doing a lot of research on the power of our minds and the thoughts we cling to, which help to manifest our reality. What I found is that thoughts truly do become things. It should be a heads-up and reminder to everyone that when it comes to what we are thinking, it helps to focus on productive and positive thoughts. Stinking thinking should have no place in our minds if we intend to live a higher quality of life. Mike's philosophy helped me eliminate negative thinking that would lead to anger, resentment, hopelessness and so many other emotions I chose to not fall "victim" to anymore.

While I look at my glass as more than half full these day, I still catch myself thinking negative thoughts, usually in the form of anxiety. Thankfully, I have learned to manage these negative thought patterns when they pop up. I owe much of my positive outlook and attitude to the use of mindfulness and grounding techniques. Talk therapy helped me address any past trauma that threatened my progress. We all have the ability to harness our thinking and steer it in a more positive and productive direction. It takes a lot of self-awareness to realize this.

What have your thoughts been telling you lately? Do you feel like you have control over your thoughts, or are your thoughts controlling you? I encourage everyone to do a check-in with themselves to see where their thinking has led them lately. Whether you feel like you are in a good or bad place, or somewhere in between, your thoughts brought you there. Our thoughts become things. It's up to us to choose the right ones, which will in turn help create more of what we would like to see unfold in our life. How amazing is that!?!?!
