Keeping life exciting

"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all."

- Helen Keller

"What's new and exciting?" I prefer to ask people this question instead of the standard, "How are you?" The reason I ask people about what is new and exciting in their life is because I want them to tell me something positive instead of the typical, "I'm fine" or "I'm good" responses to "How are you?" Also, if you do not have a response for the "new and exciting" question, I would challenge you to come up with something. If we do not have anything new and exciting to talk about in our lives, we may need to check in with ourselves.

It can be easy to fall into the routine of life until it feels more like a merry-go-round or some version of the classic movie Groundhog Day. Routines can bring us comfort, but they can also suck us into autopilot, making us passengers within our own amusement park ride of life. If life were an amusement park (and I treat it as such), there are plenty more rides to enjoy than a merry-go-round that becomes more lackluster with every rotation. It does not always need to be about seeking adventure, but at least more variety, the spice of life.

I believe change is not only good, it's necessary. It's what helps make life more exciting. It's why we check out new restaurants and vacation in different destinations. The excitement of going to new places and trying new things is the anticipation of what will transpire. True to life, they cannot all be winners. We establish our favorites and what to avoid. We cannot find new favorites if we are not willing to explore our options and switch it up. The excitement can disappear when we always know what to expect.

So, what's new and exciting? What are you looking forward to doing? What gets you excited about getting out of bed recently? If we want to enjoy life and make the most of it, it's on us to explore and engage in a variety of pursuits. We may further discover what it is that helps us sustain that enthusiasm and excitement for life. We can only enjoy that which we pursue, and it can be tough to explore new avenues when we are stuck on the same merry-go-round. By switching it up and having new adventures to look forward to, we can keep stirring up excitement in our lives.
