Acting on our faith

"Faith is about doing. You are how you act, not just how you believe."

Faith is one of those things we cannot touch. It can be a belief in something bigger than ourselves, but can also be a belief in good things to come. We may have faith that something is going to turn out well or even better than we expected because we focus our thoughts on the best outcome possible. We create good intentions and hope for the best. Sometimes the outcome may be out of our hands, but often we can contribute to favorable outcomes by leveraging our faith with action.

For example, I am starting a new job next week. I will be a Client Care Counselor for an Employee Assistance Program organization which helps millions of people from thousands of organizations across the world. I'm excited to take this next step on my career path. I have faith it will be a great experience and help me thrive in my counseling career. I don't know this for a fact, but I believe it. This is one of those examples where I can double down on my faith with action. My success in this role will be determined by the effort I put in.

I can hope it will all go well. I can believe I will be successful in the role. However, he best way to ensure everything will work out for me is to give it my all. With over a month of training, I will have to learn and apply a ton of information over the next several weeks. It's necessary so I can thrive while helping people address critical issues they may be dealing with at work or at home, or both. I understand I have a responsibility to help others who are counting on me in their time of need, and I don't want to let them down. This is why I will be very focused and disciplined during training. I don't only believe this. I know this since I am committed to it.

Even though I have faith everything will work out well, there are factors I do not have control over. I don't get to choose my supervisors or the clients I work with. I get to choose the amount of effort I put in and the attitude I show up with every day. Those two factors alone will help determine the level of success I achieve in my new job. I have faith in myself to succeed and that it will all work out great. While I cannot control everything to ensure it will all work out, acting on behalf of my faith will help make it more likely.
